Travel info about Bundi
The city of Bundi has approximately 100,000 inhabitants. It is located in the Hadoti region of the state of Rajasthan, and its main attraction lies in its palaces and fortresses of a very elaborate and ornate style, as well as its wells known as baoris, or stepwells. There are about 50 stepwells in Bundi of which only a handful have remained. These stepwells were the only way to obtain water in the city until the pipe system was introduced. When this happened the stepwells were abandoned and suffered enormous damage. Most of them were used as garbage dumps. Currently there is no public awareness regarding this problem.
Bundi is located about 206 kilometers from the capital of Rajastan, Jaipur. A wall with four access doors surround the entire city. It is located at an altitude of about 268 meters above sea level and rests near a narrow gorge. Three sides of the city is surrounded by the Aravalli mountains.
